Martina Viarengo is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva. She also serves as faculty associate at Harvard University’s Center for International Development. She is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Women’s Empowerment and a fellow of the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration in London. Prior to joining the Graduate Institute’s faculty, Viarengo was an economist at the Centre for Economic Performance of the London School of Economics and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Viarengo is a specialist in applied microeconomics and development. Her research focuses on public policy, education policy and international migration. In 2013, she was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World 32 Economic Forum. She is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and was named Newton International Fellow by the British Academy, Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering. She has served as advisor to several international organizations. She holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University.
