Conférences européennes

Together with the Network of Experts on the Social Dimension of Education and Training (NESET II), EENEE organises annual European conferences on the economics of education, on behalf of the Commission. These conferences are dedicated to stimulate the exchange between policymakers and researchers. They aim to disseminate well-funded scientific knowledge on the economics of education in Europe to policymakers, as well as to highlight current shortcomings and gaps in the scientific research on the economics of education in Europe from a practical point of view.

EENEE and NESET II Conference 2018 - 22 November 2018, Brussels

The conference of the European Commission on "Strengthening Common European Values through Education. What does the Evidence tell us?" was organised by the European Expert Network on Economics of Education (EENEE) and the Network of Experts on the Social Dimension of Education and Training (NESET II).
The 2018 Conference is focussed on the topic of common European values, active citizenship and key competences. While a lot has already been done to promote common European values, it is acknowledged that there is a need to further strengthen them through education. This conference will be oriented towards solutions and practices that demonstrated value and worked well for different levels of education.

23 November 2016, Brussels

The conference of the European Commission on "Socially Inclusive Education: Better Connecting Research to Policy and Practice" was organised by the European Expert Network on Economics of Education (EENEE) and the Network of Experts on the Social Dimension of Education and Training (NESET II).

Between 2004 and 2011, EENEE organised a series of European Symposia on behalf of the European Commission:

"Measures to Combat Educational Disadvantage"

6th European Symposium

08-09 December 2011, Brussels

Inequalities persist in all European education and training systems - with devastating consequences for individuals, for the economy and for social cohesion. They reflect - and compound - wider socio-economic inequalities and disadvantage. They can be found at every facet and level of our education systems: in access, in treatment and in outcomes. The aim of the symposium was therefore to point out concrete measures to improve the situation and present supporting evidence that the Commission could put forward to the Member States.

5th European Symposium

27 October 2009, Brussels

Innovation and creativity are important determinants for long-run economic growth and well-being in Europe. Thus the Directorate General Education and Culture (DG EAC) - in collaboration with EENEE and NESSE - decided to host a symposium on this topic during the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. Together with researchers, policymakers, social partners and practitioners the symposium explicitly focused on the role of Vocational Education and Training (VET) to foster creativity and innovation.

4th European Symposium

14 October 2008, Brussels

The European Network of Experts on Economics of Education (EENEE) and the Network of Experts on Social Sciences of Education and Training (NESSE) are currently supporting the Commission in the analysis of education and training policies and reforms and of their implications at national, regional and European level. Like in the previous year, these two networks of independent experts participated in a joint symposium in Brussels on 14 October 2008. The topic was "Improving Early Childhood Education and Care". The importance of pre-primary education was already emphasized in the 2006 Commision's Communication on "Efficiency and Equity in European Education and Training Systems", the 2007 European Parliament's Resolution on the same topic and several other publications of the Commission. It is considered as one of the crucial drivers for achieving the Lisbon goals.

The European Network of Experts on Economics of Education (EENEE) and the Network of Experts on Social Sciences of Education and Training (NESSE) are currently supporting the Commission in the analysis of education and training policies and reforms and of their implications at national, regional and European level. In close cooperation with DG-EAC, these two networks of independent experts will participate in a first joint symposium in Brussels on 19 and 20 June 2007. This event is a follow-up activity to the 2006 Commission's Communication on the Efficiency and Equity in European Education and Training Systems and to the main concerns expressed by Education Ministers in the relevant Council Conclusions as well as to the reorientations from the European Council for the revised Lisbon strategy and the future perspectives of education and training systems.

2nd European Symposium

The discussion provided a follow-up to the main concerns expressed by Ministers at their informal meeting on the "efficiency and equity of European education and training systems" in Brussels on February 21 as well as to the recent reorientations from the European Council for the revised Lisbon strategy and the modernisation of the European Social Model.
