Torberg Falch is Professor at the Department of Economics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. He was the Head of the Department of Economics at NTNU from 2005-2009 and Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2013. He holds a Master Degree in economics from NTNU and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Oslo. Since 2004 he has been CESifo Research Network fellow. Falch is co-editor of the journal Education Economics, a member of the board of Centre for Rural Research, Norway, and a member of the Norwegian Appeals board for taxation of oil companies. Several of his research projects have been financed by the Norwegian Research Council, and he has written several reports on education policy issues for the Norwegian Ministry of Education, jointly with colleagues. His wide-ranging work in the economics of education has been published in such journals as the American Economic Review, European Economic Review, Economics of Education Review and Education Economics, and also in different Norwegian outlets. The sub-fields of the economics of 29 education he covers include education production function studies, analysing the effects of purchased inputs, families and institutions; teacher labour markets, analysing the sorting of teachers across schools, teacher demand and teacher wage determination; and school costs and cost effectiveness, analysing the determinants of school cost components and the political economy of resource allocation. At NTNU, Falch collaborate with a group of further well-known professors in the economics of education, Hans Bonesrønning, Bjarne Strøm and Lars-Erik Borge.
